Must Read for Serious Musicians:

I"m a professional musician. Been playing music for 24 years. This is perhaps the best book about music that I've ever read. If you want to get to a deeper level in your musicianship, read this book. Wooten Channels Carlos Castaneda:

I'm a long-time fan of Carlos Castaneda's books (The Teachings of Don Juan: A Yaqui Way of Knowledge), and Wooten's The Music Lesson is cut from similar cloth. In the Castaneda books, the author--an anthropologist--studies with a Mexican Yaqui shaman by the name of Don Juan Matus who teaches the author many things: about plants, about spirituality, about his own inner self, and much more. Part Useful, Part Not:

The first, less mystical half, of the book is a lot more interesting and valuable than the second. Once Wooten gets into his magical, mystical, imaginary musical instructor, Michael, he gets carried away with the magic and the story becomes more like Harry Potter than music lesson. I will take some of the lessons from the first half with me for the rest of my musical life. I hope I can forget the 2nd half as soon as possible.

Go Foward:

I picked up this book while browsing through a bookstore, once I picked it up I couldn't put it down. The story is incredible. This book is for the musician who has grown tired of practice & bad gigs. It speaks of the philosophy of music as opposed to a "how to" book. If you are in a musical rut, this is definitely must have for you.
