Some useful tips:

There are some useful mental and practical tips for getting to where you want to be musically.
You can get into the meditation stuff if it turns you on, however this book is not just about mediatation. Practical tips on practising and preparing yourself for performance are there for you to extract. The author uses his experiences to relay this information. The book is aimed specifically at jazz improvisation or classical musician types, but the information is relevant to all muso's.

Kenny Werner's book, "Effortless Mastery", should be must read-
ing for every musician, beginner or professional. It is full of techniques to get you to pick up your instrument that has been sitting in the corner, collecting dust.
I honestly believe that Kenny knows more about teaching music than anyone on the planet. I have read it twice and I am getting ready to read it again.

Kenny Werner's Effortless Mastery is a beautiful description of the joy of playing music from a relaxed, meditative state along with advice for achieving it. As many here have mentioned, he clearly explains the counterproductive thought processes which inundate the mind of most musicians; you'll think he's been inside your mind! Incomplete Package:

This is a terrific text potentially capable of guiding the reader through improvement of his/her performance. However, it is wothless without the CD. I received the book all right, but WITHOUT the crucial part for practicing and/or meditation - the CD.
The Amazon did not specify that the book includes the CD and did not forwarn the purchaser before finishing the sale that this particular book is missing this important intrinsic part.
The book without the CD is useless. I wasted my money. more info
